St Nicholas Church

Built in the 12th century by Herbert de Lozinga. The early years of the church are covered in Palmers Perlustration. St Nicholas Church was hit by a German fire bomb raid between 1am and 3am on Thursday 24th June 1942 and was completely destroyed. The church clock stopped at 2.30am. It was rebuilt after the second world war and the bells were blessed on 21st June 1959 and in 1960 the whole church was consecrated. Although everything was destroyed, different churches helped to furnish St Nicholas Church and thereby it still retains some of its original character.
