Local Historian - Great Yarmouth Area

Colin_Tooke2 Colin Tooke has been interested in Local History for the last 30 years and during that  period he has collected a vast amount of information about the local area. For 14 years Colin was secretary of the local Archaeological Society, he  has also been a Director of the Preservation Trust, a Council member of the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society and a member of the Norfolk Industrial Archaeological Society.

Colin has given talks on local history to local schools, clubs and organisations for the past 20 years and taken many hundreds of people on guided walks of the town since the 1970īs.

Colinīs first book Caister - 2,000 Years a Village was published in 1985 and has been followed by many others. In 1998 he and his wife Jan decided to become their own publishers and the first of Tookes Books were published in October of that year. Following the success of that book a series of books on differing aspects of the townīs history are now in preparation and will be published at regular intervals.

It seems years ago I was introduced to Colins book on the Great Yarmouth Rows, for anybody who loves history it was and is a great read. This good book developed for me into a source of information on the Rows which I donīt think can be bettered.

Colin has the ability to hold the reader or listeners interest with his genuine enthusiasm, this enthusiasm is naturally delivered and thereby wets the appetite and one has to ask for more.
