Time Gentlemen Please

For the first time in print, Time Gentlemen Please identifies and locates 386 public houses that have existed in Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Caister from the eighteenth century to the present day; of these 110 are still in business.
Over the years these pubs have been known by more than 740 different names and this book attempts to explain the origin of many of these.
As well as the pubs, the breweries that supplied them have been identified. The book includes a history of Lacon's brewery, the main brewery in the town for over 300 years, Paget's brewery on North Quay and Bell's brewery at Gorleston. Many smaller nineteenth century breweries, such as Ferrier's, Reynold's and Kew's are listed and located.
Other subjects included are the malting industry, the coaching routes to and from the town and the pubs at which they terminated, coffee taverns and the Victorian pleasure gardens, the latter the playgrounds of the town in the nineteenth century.
A full index of names enables the reader to easily locate any pub or brewery that has, or still does, exist in the town.
